Jun 12, 2017 I'm going to be starting a new job in about 4 weeks and the new place primarily uses VMware ESXi 6.0 with some customers on 6.5. I come from a Hyper-V background so I want to set up a home server with VMware so I can begin tinkering prior to starting. They will be providing full training but it's always good to get stuck in beforehand.

Hello, I have a vmware image file, with the.vmdk and.vmx, and would like to convert and run this image on a virtualbox setup. How do I proceed? Feb 05, 2008 First I migrated to VMWare Workstation and then from Workstation to ESX. It now appears to be working OK, I had to adjust the memory allocated from 384Mb to 512Mb, install VMWare tools and uninstall VMWare converter agent.
Thanks for your help! Michael August 21, 2015 at 9:22 PM Hi Thomas in raspbian wheezy /tmp is cleanup at every (re)boot by the mountall-bootclean.sh script and therefore the /tmp/eib could not survive a reboot. Do you use the /etc/init.d/eibd and not the upstart script? Can you stop eibd: sudo su /etc/init.d/eibd stop delete the socket: rm /tmp/eib and temporary disable the eibd init script at boot time: update-rc.d eibd disable and reboot the raspberry: reboot After reboot no socket file must exist, otherwise eibd is started somewhere else while booting. Thomas August 24, 2015 at 7:16 PM Hi Michael, I confirm that I use the the /etc/init.d/eibd startup script.
Still researching, but I am still unclear on simple things like if I buy a small rack, do I need shelf brackets for each server or is it normally enough to screw them in in the front? If I'm just looking for maybe 2 1u servers, and a switch I could probably get a small rack, but am still looking at overall what to order.
This is my problem: GiraHomeServer3, manufacture IP-address is 192.168.0.11, device successfully pinged, I updated the firmware and transfered the project (Expert2.6), the client (laptop with IP-address 192.168.0.12) connected successfully, everything is OK! There is existing network at the site. With subnet 192.168.1.x I changed the IP address of HS to 192.168.1.211 in project and transfered to HS - successfully! But now HS does not ping and Expert does not see it (on the laptop IP: 192.168.1.12)!!! What is more the ARP command shows MAC-address of the HS! I tried to reboot, shut off power, waited a few minutes (as in Man written) - nothing it helps!
This is the system I used and it is supported by the VMware HCL: You can get unsupported hardware to run on vmware but if you ever decide to contact vmware you will be out of luck. Alternatively you could utilize proxmox for your hypervisor and run your VM's in there. It has some nice features but is a bit of a departure from VMWare so you will need to decide if you want a vmware experience or just something that allows you to virtualize your home server systems. I don't know how successful you will be with load balancing between two WANs unless you define that has high availability or failover caapabilities. For homelab purposes, you could scan the HCL to see what is officially supported, paying close attention to disk and network parts. Lately I have noticed that as hardware gets older (i.e., more affordable for homelab stuff) that it starts to become unsupported by the latest versions of vmware.
I tried to Install ESXi6.5 on a NUC7i7 with an Samsung 960 EVO, but i got broken VMFS (6+5) Volumes (I/O errors). This happens especially after rebooting the system. VMs failed to start and Logs could not read. I got a lot of errors like nvme:NvmeScsiCmd_DoSyncCache:2844:IMMED=0 is not allowed ScsiDeviceIO: 2962: Cmd(0x439500bc2380) 0x35, CmdSN 0x611 from world 0 to dev 't10.NVMe____Samsung_SSD_960_EVO_500GB_______________C751B0615C382500' failed H:0x0 D:0x2 P:0x0 Valid sense data: 0x5 0x24 0x0. Failure As Adapter-Model only something like 'Non-Volatile Memory' was shown. After installing ESXi 6.0u3 everything works fine (so far).
Any help I can get I'd love.

Maybe the USB Vendor and Device ID is not listed in /etc/udev/rules.d/90-knxusb-devices.rules and therefore the permission on the device are not set as expected. Use lsusb -n to determine the ID’s of your device and if no entry in /etc/udev/rules.d/90-knxusb-devices.rules is found, open the file copy a line and alter the Vendor and device id to your ones. Let me know if I have to add it to the script.
(Its about 80-100MB/sec.) Keep in mind that this will be the case for every system currently out there, not just the NUCs. Some mitigation can be had by adjusting the size of the blocks for your storage. =>64k may make a hugh difference. Do your research. My DNHE showed a black screen for about 1 minute while loading the installer. Then everything went fine, but I'm using it without SSD/HDD.
It booted and installed successfully! Note that I am not using the 'noIOMMU' parameter, whatever this does, my install appears to be working fine without it.
Valeria January 29, 2016 at 8:10 AM Hi Michal! I solved my problem now thanks to you!!! Ihad already static ip and the problem was not in it. I did all steps from your page eibknx-upstart-startup-script-for-eibd useradd eibd -s /bin/false -U -M Create the upstart conf file /etc/init/eibd.conf initctl reload-configuration initctl status eibd initctl start eibd rm /tmp/eib and it helped me then again run command but not as root /usr/local/bin/eibd -D -T -R -S -i -t 10 -u –eibaddr 1.1.1 usb:1:4:1:0:0 and everything start working.
In both cases, you want the Offline Bundle version at the bottom of the page. For an overview of how to use ESXi-Customizer, I referred to link. It isn't specifically for the Brix, but it'll give you an idea of how to build the modified vSphere 6 ISO (note that when you get to the part where you add the drivers in ESXi-Customizer, it won't show the.zip files you downloaded until you change the file type in the open dialog to 'all files'). Finally, make sure you disable CSM in the Brix's BIOS, or it'll probably hand in the middle of the install. I just thought I'd leave a message here for everyone trying to get ESX 5.5 installed on a BRIX and getting either the hang at 'Initializing storage stack' or the 'Command line is empty. Fatal error: 32 (syntax)' error.
All developing tools to compile the eibd daemon are already included. For the current version you need a SD card with at least 4GB. The installation of rapbian is described in detail. Its simple:-) When your operating system is up, login as user pi and set a static IP Address to ensure the gateway is always reachable at the same IP Address.
